Vinylový 7" split kapel Houpací koně, nová píseň Desire City a Please The Trees, nová píseň Not This Way. Kapely se znají už celou věčnost, nebo o trochu míň, a tak k nápadu vydat split nebylo daleko, došlo k němu během večírku po společném koncertě ve skvělém sušickém klubu Kloub, kde baskytaristé obou kapel chodili s ústy pomazanými kečupem mezi lidmi a děsili je.

I’m getting, getting ready for you
I’m getting, getting ready to be crucified
I’m getting, getting ready to be yours
I’m getting, getting ready for you to be mine

It’s so quiet
The day‘s a year long
When you’re not with me
When you’re gone, my sweet love
Far away
I hear your voice
I’m getting, getting ready for us to be whole

I wonder what will explode first
My mind
My heart
My body
The whole universe?
I’m getting ready, ready to be yours
I’m getting ready for us to be whole.

Vash Havelka: vocals, rhythm guitar
Jonathan Burnside: lead guitar, rhythm guitar
Jeff Mehl: organ
Mira Syrny: bass
Jan Svacina: drums

Have you heard the news
Hell is here on earth
Have you heard the news
Everything you do will come around
Have you heard the news
You can buy land on the moon

Have you heard the news
Children can only teach you
Have you heard the news
Nature is god and sky is the church
Have you heard the news
No Jesus can save you
Have you heard the news
Hell is here on earth

And man is the devil

Devil lives on rock
Devil lives on rock
Devil lives on rock.

Vash Havelka: vocals, guitar
Zdenek'Zok'Kadlec: guitar
Mira Syrny: bass
Jan Svacina: drums
Jonathan Burnside: Piano, percussion

She made love to the moon
She made love to me
She gave away all she had
She gave away her whole being

Now she is in everything
Now she is everything
Now she is in everything

She doesn’t see the beauty here she used to see
She feels nothing when she’s supposed to feel
She goes to places other people are afraid to go
It’s the coming back here
She fears

Now she’s in everything
Now she’s everything
Now she’s me
She’s you
Now it's her
It’s her.

Vash Havelka: vocals, rhythm guitar
Jonathan Burnside: lead and rhythm guitars, percussion
Jeff Mehl: Organ
Mira Syrny: bass
Jan Svacina: drums

I’m dancing with the mountains
The wicked thoughts in my head
Only trees understand

Sing to me darling, sing
Let the wind bring me your voice and words
Down here
Where my heart used to belong

Sing to me darling, sing
Let the wind bring me your voice and words
Down here
Where my soul used to be home

You keep appearing every night in my dreams
I can’t ever see your face
But I always know
I know it’s you
Darling
Let the wind bring you to me
Down here
Where I’m swimming in the hair long tears

Sing to me darling, sing
Let the wind bring me your voice and words
Down here to Granada
Where my heart used to be home

Shine me a light
Guide me through disastrous night
Into the morning
When you’ll finally be mine.

Vash Havelka: vocals, guitar
Jonathan Burnside: dobro

I want to hear your hair grow
I want to get close to you
Within the reach of your voice
But not on a record or on telephone

Maybe it's just about the time to get back to my life
Maybe it's just about the time to get me a new heart
I guess I just sit down here and wait for some
I’ll wait for someone to die

Hoping it won't be anyone I know
Hoping it won't be anyone I love
Hoping it won't be neither man or a horse
Hoping it won't be anyone at all
And I'll forget you before my heart explodes
And I'll forget you before my heart explodes.

Vash Havelka: vocals, guitar
Zdenek'Zok'Kadlec: guitar
Jonathan Burnside: dobro, slide guitar, percussion
Mira Syrny: bass
Jan Svacina: drums

Oh lord, I’m working on being no one
Oh lord, I’m learning to love myself

I fall out of love
Fall in love with you
I fall out of love
Fall in love with you

Oh lord, I’m learning to build a family
To create a home
Oh lord, I’m learning to love myself

I fall in love
Out of love with you
I fall out of love
Out of love with you
Fall in love
Out of love

I fall in love
Out of love with you
I fall out of love
Out of love with you
I fall out of love
Out of love with you
Fall in love
Out of love.

Vash Havelka: vocals
Jonathan Burnside: lead and rhythm guitars, percussion
Mira Syrny: bass
Jan Svacina: drums, Moog, Vox organ

When you go out not knowing where to
When you go out not knowing what for
Are you finding more
When you get lost

When you go out in the morning
When you go out at night
Just for the sake of keeping on going
You might be finding out

When you are lost
You find more
When you are lost
You find love

Around the corner
In the fields
In the woods
The road
Far from home
The valleys
The seas
The horizon
You can't see

When you are lost
You find more
When you are lost
You find love

Vash Havelka: vocals, guitar
Zdenek'Zok'Kadlec: guitar
Mira Syrny: distorted bass, bowed cymbal
Jonathan Burnside: bass
Jan Svacina: drums

It's hot tonight
You put your clothes on
It's hot tonight
You put your clothes on
Now I can't get through
You sleep for a while
Now I can't get through
You sleep for a while
Will you let me make it
Will you let me take it

The wood‘s so deep in you
The wood‘s so deep in me
Roots and branches
Watch them interweave
Slowly brake through our minds
Slowly brake through our skin

Our love
Our love
Our love
Grows

More branches a year.

I use to sell school bags from Denmark
I use to sell bamboo umbrellas from Japan
For the past fifty years
I’m secretly planting trees
All over New York City

I plant flowers too
Where ever there’s room
I’ve got pollen in my hair
In my ears
In my shoes

I’m secret agent for page six
I’m son of a priest but I’m an atheist
They say I’m the family’s black sheep
I got too much work to do to go to sleep
I’m a gardener and tryin'

I’m gonna turn this city green
I’m gonna turn this city green
I’m gonna turn this city green
Turn the whole world onto Lead Belly

I use to sell school bags from Denmark
I use to sell bamboo umbrellas from Japan
They say I’m the family’s weirdest
I got too much work to do to meditate, to make my mind rest
I’m a gardener and I’m tryin'

I’m gonna turn this city green
I’m gonna turn this city green
I’m gonna turn this city green
Turn the whole world onto Lead Belly.

You´re a piece of me
And yet for a long time you´re not
You´re a veil of an echo of a memory
And that´s what
That’s what I want you to stay
Stay

A veil, a veil of an echo, a veil

I chose carefully every single thought
I´m afraid of thinking ( feeling ) too much
No I don´t wanna get back to where my thoughts are not enough

A veil, a veil of an echo, a veil
Stay a veil, a veil of an echo, a veil

Our hearts ache to meet
But we know we oughtn´t see
Cuz when we see we speak
And when we speak we can hardly breath
Then we kiss
And that´s where it all begins
That´s where it all begins
Again

Erase me from the map
Erase me from your head
Erase me from your heart
And I’ll appear in front of you

Erase me from the map
Erase me from your head
Erase me from your heart
And I’ll appear in front of you
In the new light

Forget everything I say
All the things I do
Forget me completely
And I’ll appear in front of you
In new form
In new shape
With new taste
And I’ll appear in front of you
In the new light

And I’ll appear in the from of you
Not as what you make of me
But as what I am
A mountain that holds in all the sleep we’re missing but could have
A mountain that holds in all the sleep we’re missing and will never have.

Does the constant buzz in my ears mean
Somebody is thinkin‘ of me?
Or is there something wrong
From listenin‘ to too much music all day and all night long?

Does the constant ache in my heart mean
It’s too small for all the love it’s holding?
Or is there just something wrong with it
From never stoppin‘
Never missin‘ a beat?

It keeps on, it keeps on, it keeps on goin‘
Precisely
As long, as long, as long, as it doesn‘t get broken
Or a knife doesn’t get stuck right through it

Does the constant itch in my eyes mean
Something got stuck in?
Or is there something wrong
From seeing only, only, only, only what they want?

Would you still love me
If I told you my real name?
Would you still like to marry me
After I introduced you to my wife and kids?
If I had nothing else but love to give?

Would you become my better half
If I left all the spare pieces behind?
If I had no work, no money, no house, no mule, or a car
In which I could take you for an easy ride?

Would you still love me
If I told you my real name?
If I kept coming home on all fours every second night at 3am?
Just for you to see the worst of me
Would you keep on letting me in?

Would you become my better half
If I´d left the spare pieces behind?
If I had no work, no money, no house, no mule or a car
In which I could take you for an easy ride?

I´ll do you no harm
I´ll break your arms and legs
If it´s the only way
To keep you close to me
If it´s the only way

I´ll do you no harm
I´ll break your arms and legs
If it´s the only way
To keep you close

To keep you mine
To keep you mine
To keep you mine
Only mine

I´ll do you no harm
I´ll break your legs and arms
If it´s the only way
To keep you home for a while

I´ll do everything I see in your eyes
I´ll bring you the blue from the rivers and the skies
I´ll bring it all to you

Until your bones heal
And you´ll be able to hold a glass

Until your bones heal
And you´ll be able to leave me
You´ll be able to go

I´ll do you no harm
I´ll break your legs and arms
If it´s the only way
To keep you close to me
If it´s the only way
If it´s the only way
If it´s the only way

I never get tired of sleep
And I do
I do it for free
But I can´t ever get enough of it
As I can´t stop
My mind from singing

Tu tu tu do do do
Tu tu tu do do do
Tu tu tu do do do

Some days I get to bed on time
Some days I get to bed late
Either way, every night alone or with you
In tender embrace
I’m waitin‘ for the song that will come next
Will I remember it in the morning?
Will you still be there?

Don’t you worry my darlin‘
That you’re missin‘ somethin‘
Can’t you see the trees and mountains
For centuries standing still
Never complaining

Don’t you worry my darlin‘
That you’re missin‘ somethin‘
Can’t you see the trees and mountains
For centuries standing still
Never askin‘
Where I’ve been?
Where I’ve been?
When and where will I go?

In

In the ancient Mayan greeting inlak’ech (which loosely translates as You are my other me...), the otherness of faces vanishes. In the new songs from their album Inlakesh, the Czech band Please The Trees finds a unity with the freedom of realization that we are different images of the same. Inlakesh transcends the otherness of the surface of things and shows the band in a more transparent light. The haze, that blurred the outlined sphere of action on their debut album Lion Prayer (2007 Absent Hour Records), now dissipates. On Inlakesh, Please The Trees define themselves through a more determined approach in songs as well as in their overall sound.

On their second full-length studio opus, Please The Trees further elaborate on themes that have enshrouded them since their first shows. Inlakesh calls a truce between divided souls. This reconciliation opens new possibilities. The ancient concept of the duality of human relationships – the relationship between humans and nature or things – continues to be an undying inspiration for Please The Trees. Inlakesh is a handshake, a diffusion, and a mutual confrontation.

La

Following the loss and replacement of several band members, Inlakesh represents a newly acquired closeness for Please The Trees. After a change of drummer (replaced by David Koukal for two years now) and a decision to eliminate the keyboard position (after Dan Cerny left the band), Please the Trees underwent yet another change. While recording Inlakesh, bassist Karel Sychra was replaced by Miroslav Syrny, enriching the band as the only member with formal music education. The firm core of Please The Trees – singer/frontman/guitarist/lyricist Václav Havelka and guitarist Zdenek ’Zok’ Kadlec – remains, of course, invariable.

On Inlakesh, Please The Trees also demonstrate that for some time now they are no longer just a convenient fusion of post-rockers Some Other Place and Havelka‘s solo one-man project selFbrush. The album Inlakesh captures the band as a solid unit, one with an apparent mission and its source of inspiration remelted into an original form. Ringingly airy guitars bridge the passion for a laid-back alternative rock, having its roots in the Wild West, and a melancholic folk-songwriting.

“New songs started to emerge immediately after the recording of our debut album Lion Prayer, under the influence of the quickly and intuitively born song Red Sky,“ reveals PTT frontman Václav Havelka, who adds: “We recorded the entire album Inlakesh during two weeklong sessions in the home environment of an improvised studio at our practice space in the city of Tabor – the ‘Base Camp’ (camp = tabor in Czech) at Zok’s house.

Kesh

The album has also been enriched by several guest artists. For example, Only Way, Havelka’s duet with singer Veronika Buriankova from the band Veena, is just as natural of an outcome of their collaboration as Martin Kosan’s trumpet, David Babka’s pedal steel guitar or Bethany Lacktorin’s violin accompaniment. The musicians with whom Please the Trees found a kindred spirit line the band‘s path, which led not only to the final sound of the album Inlakesh, but of Please The Trees as a whole.

Inlakesh received its final form through collaboration with producer Michal ‘Amak’ Stastny. The final track, Be Still, recorded in the bathroom in Amak’s apartment, once again closes the circle and shakes hands with the position Havelka takes on his solo project selFbrush.

The insinuated intimacy is also revealed in the graphic rendering of Inlakesh. The photographs and design of the album cover, created in collaboration with photographer Karin Zadrick, offers a look into Havelka’s hundred-year-old family archive. On Inlakesh, the interlocking of themes and the admission of roots are for Please the Trees the link to the essence of their music. They play for one another. For Czech Republic they released the album in strictly limited edition of 400 copies on Havelka’s samizdat recording company Absent Hour Records. Please The Trees offer Inlakesh to anyone who wants to listen to a band that has clearly defined its own space, one that crosses borders and transcends the limits of music categorization.

In March 2010 Please The Trees toured the U.S. successfuly for the first time. They performed at the prestigious international music festival South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, guest appeared on shows with Akron/Family, Warpaint and Vetiver.

Lion Prayer cover

Lion Prayer [2007]

Hold the memory of the crystal clear calm sea
Let go the memory of the dull me
Hold on to my unrequited love
And let it flourish in a song

Sometimes you´re looking for your lost mind
In the woods, in the strees in your bag
You pray into the deepest well
And all you get is your reflection back
And all you get is your reflection back.

The heavily pregnant silence gave birth to another fight
You left to your place and I left to mine
It´s sick, it´s sick, it´s sick, it´s sick
You being always too busy and me always ready
For a text:
“Good night sweety, you´ll always be my boy!”

We´re in love but somehow wrong
We´re in love but just can´t get along
I wish I could tell you to leave
I wish I´d be the one always busy
Writing:
“Good night sweety, you´ll always be my boy!”.

As the heat rises and you sleeveless in shorts
Your summer palm leaves a mark where I place my thought
We touch in buses, trams, trains and planes
I´m afraid of you
If I only could know your name

And we´re getting more of each other than we aimed
We´re sinking into each other deeper than we can

As the heat rises and you wear just a blouse and sunglasses
I´m afraid of being able to see through
We touch everywhere else but our faces
We make love everywhere but our beds

And we´re getting more of each other than we can bare
We´re sinking into each other deeper than we can
We´re merging into each other more and more
But where can we get like this really if we never talk
If we never talk.

Kill me after you kill yourself
So we can soon meet again
Even in jail you can always find a friend
Kill me after you kill yourself
So we can soon meet again
Even in jail you can always find a man

Happy
Cuz he found out that the walls are not really there
Happy
Cuz he found out hat the bars are not really there

Love me after you love yourself
So we can soon meet again
At a bar you can always join me
Love me after you love yourself
So we can soon meet again
With a drink you can always find me

Happy
Cuz I found out that the walls are not really there
It´s not me, it´s not me
The body that get’s drunk is not really there.

I never notice my brother has a new woman
Cuz they all look same
I never notice my brother has a new woman
Cuz they all look same
One like another
They all look same
They just have different dogs and names

I never notice
Until they´re introduced to me
I never notice
Until their dogs go after me

I never notice my brother has a new woman
Cuz they all look same
They just have different dogs and names

I never notice
Until they´re introduced to me
I never notice
Until they don´t go after me

I never notice.

I have enough fuel in my car to burn your house down
I have enough fuel in my car to burn your house down

I have enough fuel in my car to burn your house down
I have enough fuel in my car to burn your house down

Give me a match, give me a match, give me a match
Give me a match, give me a match, give me a match

Don´t run
Hold my hand
Watch the sky turn red

From roof to roof
Follow the flames
Watch ´em dance

Don´t, don´t, don´t, don´t, don´t run
Hold my hand
The sky´s red
The sky´s red
The sky´s red.

I was ready to shout back
But instead I got beat up
I was ready to shout back
But instead I got beat up
I was ready to shout
But instead I got knocked out
By a taxi driver tonight
Tonight

I was ready to shout back
But instead I got beat up
Friends of mine betrayeded me
They just stood andwatched
And that helped me realise
They would not ever die for me
Nor would they just
Cover my back
Cover my back
Cover my back

Now I´m layin´ on the ground for a couple of crowns
And I can´t figure out why
I never thought it could be so dangerous
For a couple of crowns I´m gonna die

Ready to shout.

It was the beginning of the end
When you told me and to the rest of the band
That you´ve had married the greatest woman
It was the beginning of the end
It was the end
It was the bands end
It was our end

We´re good
We´re indeed good friends
Or at least that´s what we always thought we were
Then came that woman
And it was the beginning of the end
It was the end
It was the bands end
It was our end.
